Identification Number System
Home Page
Introduction

An identification number is assigned to each Round barn and to each Mail Pouch Barn, Sign etc on this site. An example would be: MPB - 35-71-01.

The MPB indicates Mail Pouch Barn, the second set of numbers identifies the state. Starting in alphabetical order and assigning a number to each state. Ohio = 35, Indiana = 14, West Virginia = 48, etc. Ross county is the 71st county in alphabetical order in the state of Ohio. (The last 2 digits is a number assigned to the barn as it appears on this site.) So the above number would refer to a Mail Pouch barn in Ross Co. Ohio. (This is similar to the covered bridge numbering system used to identify bridges)
